While preparing for the CCNA I began designing an upgrade to my home network in order to advance my technical skills and help better prepare for the CCNA and other certification by creating an environment where I could get hands on practice with deferent technologies. I started with a Cisco Catalyst 1000, 16 port switch to provide a decent starting point for practicing with the Cisco CLI and provide POE power for my Unify Access Points and Surveillance Cameras. Then I added a Unify Dream Machine Pro to serve as my router, NVR and WLC needs.
A Synology RackStation RS822+ provides my storage capabilities and one of my future plans is to have all of my footage from my Dream Machine surveillance system automatically backed to that device.
Currently all network Devices are supported by a Cyberpower UPS which was not part of my initial design but added after I lost power without saving the most recent version of my switch configuration.
